If you choose university, the qualification you will be studying for is called a degree. You’ll begin as an undergraduate student studying a Bachelor degree, which usually takes three to four years of full-time study (or longer if you study part-time). An example of one of these degrees is Bachelor of Physiotherapy.
Many students these days choose to do a combined or double degree, so they study for about five years and get two degrees at the end. For example, you can do a combined arts/law degree or a combined engineering/science degree, which gives you qualifications in two areas. Ask your Careers Adviser what kind of subjects each of these degrees include.
Some students start with a generalist degree and follow this up with a vocational ‘graduate diploma’ in an area such as teaching, languages, environmental studies or computing.
