Don’t worry if you feel apprehensive about starting uni. It’s quite common to feel a little nervous at first. Here’s what some other students felt about the scary side of uni:

I wish I had known that uni is not so scary after all. When I started I was really afraid to do things, like go up to a lecturer. It would be good if students knew not to be scared, but just to get involved.

For my whole school education I grew up in a small country town. This meant that I had to move out of home [to go to uni]. This was very exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time, as it meant big changes to my life overall. Where would I live? Who would I know? Would I get lost in a place like Melbourne? Would I get homesick? How would my parents feel about the decision? But my transition to university was very smooth due to joining in orientation week. Overall, I have found my university adventure to be fun, exciting, scary, life changing, nerve-wracking and very worthwhile.
Don’t forget that you can choose the kind of uni you go to. If you want to attend a smaller campus, there are options.
