Family doesn’t agree?

Going to uni is a decision only you can make. But life will certainly be a lot easier if your family supports the idea.

If they haven’t been to uni and don’t know many people who have, your family may not understand the benefits of going. They might think you’d be better off getting a job straight away, especially if they are under some financial pressure.

You need to carefully consider why you think uni is the best option for you. Collect as much information as you can about what you can do at uni and how it will benefit you, and then talk to your family about it. Try to involve them by sharing your ideas and asking them to come along to open days with you. That way the idea will become an option in their minds.

Some universities have programs and publications especially for parents, to help them learn more about university and the many opportunities that it provides.

As a start, get your family to check out the Parents portal in this site.
