University life is not as regimented as school life. There are no bells to end classes and even lunchtimes and breaks will be up to you. Unlike school, where you have the same hours each day, you might find that your university hours vary widely. One day might be filled with classes from 8am to 5pm, while the next you might have only one lecture. If you are a full-time student think of your uni course as a full-time job. That includes time spent in class and time spent on independent study.
Uni can also be heaps of fun. Sure, there are times when you have to work hard. But uni is a place that thrives on social connections and the options are varied. You can join a club, play sport, go on camps, watch bands, join bands, see plays, see films, act - it’s up to you.

Being at uni is sort of what I expected. I wouldn’t say, from my point of view anyway, that the study was as hard as I expected, or the lecturers and tutors as uptight. There really is a laid back atmosphere, and everyone that’s there wants to be, so it’s easy to keep a positive attitude.

The key difference is that it’s up to you to get involved. There are heaps of opportunities to join clubs and societies. The hardest bit is the first step, going on arts camp, or hiking with the mountaineering club; stepping out of your comfort zone and meeting new people. These experiences are awesome and as it turns out, everybody is usually really friendly and you get to meet great people.
