Students who begin a course of study at university will be studying at undergraduate level towards a Bachelor’s degree. This generally takes three or four years of full-time study. Once they complete their Bachelor’s degree, they may choose to do further study, depending on their career or research field. An example of a degree is Bachelor of Physiotherapy.
Many students these days choose to do a combined or double degree, so they study for about five years and get two degrees at the end. For example, a combined arts/law degree or combined engineering/science degree will provide qualifications in two areas. Ask your child’s Careers Adviser what kind of subjects each of these degrees includes.
For information on degree structures, research a number of university websites. In particular, look at the the ‘Future Students’ or ‘Prospective Students’ section.
