What marks do students need?

The marks required for entry into courses vary from course to course and year to year. The marks required depend upon student demand and the ENTER scores for that group of applicants.

The Clearly-In Rank (CIR) of the previous year is a useful guide for making a realistic judgment about the chances of selection into a government-subsidised CSP-based course. In the previous year, students who scored above the CIR were made an offer for that course.

Many applicants are chosen below the CIR, in the ‘middle-band’ (usually about 20% of places). Middle-band selection criteria for each course are stated in the VTAC Guide (access through http://www.vtac.edu.au/publications/index.html).

Not all courses produce a CIR during selection, as other criteria such as a folio, interview or UMAT are used to select students in addition to their ENTER. These courses are listed as ‘I’, meaning ‘individual offer’.
